Dear Editor:

City Manager Jay Baksa should be embarrassed and ashamed that he considers building codes to be obstacles. I am referring to the Jan. 21 Gilroy Dispatch article regarding downtown revitalization.

In reference to state and federal laws regarding masonry and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements, Jay Baksa was quoted as saying “They’re going to be hard to get around, they’re federal and state laws – that’s been the problem.” Regulations are designed to be followed, not something to “get around.”
