DEAR EDITOR:

For the second week, Dennis Taylor makes ignorant, and erroneous, comments against me. So, one last time, Dennis: You say I’m a John Bircher. You’re wrong. Never have been … never will be. But then, perhaps it might make you more understandable if you defined what a “John Bircher” is to your mind.

You say I “pander with my disability.” You’re wrong. You brought it up with your insulting suggestion I “should get out more” – your little in-insult based on your awareness of the disability. You say I and other thinking residents have “been filling these pages for years with anti-government (unless the government is imposing religious-based legislation on us, then everything is hunky- dory), anti-civil rights, anti-choice and anti-gay rights views.” When, Dennis? I returned to California in December 1998. That gives you a reasonable period of computer search time through The Dispatch files to bring up one letter I’ve written that’s “anti-civil rights, anti-choice and anti-gay rights.” Again, Dennis, you’re wrong.

What will keep you lashing out against this “small group”: We write about/against your Holy Grail-unionism-and the manipulative tactics out-of town union “leaders” are attempting in their efforts to buy the mayor/City Council seats. Does the truth hurt you that much?

It’s interesting you chastise James Fennell for his comments on the late U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy. This mention highlights a remarkable coincidence: McCarthy’s style was to indiscriminately label those who disagreed with him as communists or red sympathizers, and to throw out any other negative implications so as to demean/insult/degrade his critics and perceived enemies. Today, in Gilroy, the labels are “John Bircher” or “right winger”, and The Dispatch has the reincarnation of Joseph McCarthy – it’s name: Dennis Taylor.

Aren’t you proud to follow in the muddy tracks of your idol, Dennis?

James Brescoll, Gilroy
