We take a look at the stories that are coming to the web and in
the paper. This week: the high school gets a new band director and
residents get a new way to report crime
– online.
1. A new tune in town

After 11 years with the same director, the Gilroy High School band is kicking off a new school year with a new coach who’s working to make the transition as smooth as possible.

2. Crime reporting goes online

In an effort to reduce officer time spent on routine reports like property crimes, the Gilroy Police Department will be implementing a Internet based reporting system for victims of property crimes. If your bicylce is stolen, or your car stereo ripped off in the night, come October you will be able to log on to file a report that will be reviewed by an officer. There will also be a kiosk inside the police department lobby and one at the public library for reporting crimes and the police department wants to have a telephone reporting system for those who cannot access the Internet.
