Cardinals seeing red: After a 17-0 regular season, the Gilroy Little League Majors Division Cardinals  went into the postseason as the favorites and proceeded to go 3-0, including a 2-1 win over the Red Sox for the league championship last Thursday.
They now move on to the District 59 Tournament of Champions.
Giant winners: The Gilroy Little League Dr. Tommy Tong Orthodontics Giants routed the Spartan Little League Rockies 15-1 to claim the District 59 Tournament of Champions title.
A silver shining: The 2012 NorCal Hershey State Track and Field meet for kids ages 9 through 14 was held on Saturday at Oak Grove High School in San Jose. Gilroy’s St. Mary School, representing Team San Jose, had one athlete and one relay team finish in second place.
Jackie Patane competed in the 11-12 age group in the softball throw. Patane placed second with a personal record throw of 128-feet, 2-inches
The foursome of Morgan Dominguez, Sydney Novak, Kate Watts and Samantha Bellucci competed in the 11-12 age group 4×100 relay and recorded a personal best time of 1:00.95. 
Samantha Bellucci also placed 7th in the long jump.
St. Mary qualified one additional athlete, Julia Chizanskos, who could not attend due to her school trip. She is a former state champion in the softball throw.
