THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

What percentage of the Gilroy city budget should be spent on public safety (police and fire)?

â–  In terms of an ideal vision, I would say no more than 65%. It would be really wonderful if it was just half the budget. There are so many needs in our community it is a shame that such a small few benefit from such a large portion of our resources.

â–  Out of a $100 million expenditure budget for 2011, I think 35% for safety protection would be sufficient.

â–  I wish it could be limited to 65% but think it is more like 85%!

â–  I’m guessing for 50%. While salaries are the largest part of public safety expense, remember the cost of new police cars, fire trucks and facilities must be included.

â–  I believe it should only be 50%.

â–  I think a good goal would be not more than 50% as soon as possible. â–  I think 50% is fair.

â–  Next year at this time, hopefully!

â–  50%
