THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Should the city select a street area downtown to close off and form a walking-only plaza?

â–  Yes. That would be a good beginning to get community members downtown and possibly get new stores to cater to those needs/desires. Could work.

â–  Yes! I have heard Fifth Street mentioned between Eigleberry and Monterey in front of Happy Dog Pizza. You will lose some parking spaces but you can have a little plaza and benches out there for people to gather. That is were the Friday Night concerts are already.

â–  MAYBE. But first, there will need to be traffic and safety studies, plus getting business-owner agreement that this will be good for business.

â–  No, not until there is a demand for one and the most appropriate location can be determined. Sorry, but in this case “if you build it they may not come.”

â–  OH Yes, great idea. The only problem with that is they will lose the parking … the city should be smart and buy the lot at Fourth and Monterey.

â–  I like the concept, but in actuality I think it might do more harm that good (interrupting the traffic flow).

â–  A great idea! The area could be used for community gatherings, concerts etc.

â–  Yes, and it will be entertaining to see if anyone notices! n No. We need all the traffic we can get to support downtown businesses. If business was booming, we might think about that idea in the future.

â–  Yes, this would be a great addition to amenities Downtown, BUT not until something is done to improve the parking situation. Martin Street from Monterey Street halfway to the railroad alley would work very well extending out to the front of the planter that is already at Martin Street.

â–  Yes. It would be great to enjoy downtown without the traffic.

â–  No. Not permanent, I love the idea for temporary events.

â–  Rather than permanent walking space, I’d like to see a barrage of events and activities that draw people.
