THIS WEEK’S WEB POLL:

Do you think if local wineries opened tasting rooms in downtown Gilroy it would have a significant positive impact?

– It’s a possibility. I think, though, people who go wine tasting like touring through the quaint country side and visiting each unique winery.

– YES!. Any business with an established name would help the downtown. People can see for themselves that the downtown is safe and has a variety of shops. The old Oakwood Bar is available …

– Yes, but I think the concept of a wine tasting center that reflected all of our area wines/wineries would be the way to go. Wineries that have their own tasting rooms needn’t have another one and those that are open only on the third weekend would have regular exposure. I think it could be a win/win for the wine association, the wineries and downtown.

– Yes! Wouldn’t this be a fun thing to enjoy, and promote? And, it would definitely help us revitalize some parts of our downtown. It is so good to see our downtown getting more interesting with the shops and restaurants that have been the impetus to revitalization, and it is about time. We should shout out about our wineries as well – this can only be a good thing.

– With the move of the tourist bureau into the outlets the wine tasting operation downtown makes even more sense. With these two entities in place it makes for a very positive tourist flow into downtown. For the tourist it becomes a true benefit to sample the wine of the region in one location rather than one winery at a time. It also provides a way for a couple to spilt their shopping time, one to shop and the other to visit a tasting room. I’m sure that the wineries will have coupon offers for visits to their respective businesses.

– Yes, yes, yes. They could have a “joint” room, with all South County wines being poured. It would be a wonderful addition to downtown and a great boom to our blossoming wine country. Put it in a place that has outdoor “alcohol restricted” space as well as indoor space … great idea embraced by other communities … now it’s our turn!

– Yes. I think it’s a wonderful idea. Maybe they could open one tasting room and all sponsor it, to test the idea.

– That would be a great idea, works beautifully in Monterey.
