A San Martin dairy farmer convicted of multiple counts of felony grand theft and felony forgery has been sentenced to 16 months in state prison.
Jeffrey Whalen, 41, was found guilty in Santa Clara County Superior Court of scheming at least three victims out of a quarter of a million dollars and several hundred head of livestock, according to court officials. He was convicted in March on five counts of grand theft and two counts of forgery.
Whalen, the owner of Whalen Dairy Farm at 1565 E. Middle Ave. in San Martin, was wanted by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office for several weeks prior to his arrest, and was featured in the Most Wanted section of the Morgan Hill Times and the Gilroy Dispatch.
The charges against Whalen stemmed from a string of related buy-and-sell livestock schemes from 2003 to 2006, according to Deputy District Attorney John Chase.
The three victims identified in the court proceedings own property and livestock in South County.
D.A. spokeswoman Amy Cornell said Whalen will receive 73 days credit for time served on his sentence.
