A 32-year-old man was struck and killed by a juvenile driver early in the morning May 19 near Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, according to police.

At about 12:30am, officers were called to the area of the 9400 block of No Name Uno near the hospital and found the man, a Gilroy resident, lying in the street.

A nurse from the hospital was driving by and provided medical aid. However, the victim was pronounced dead a short time later, according to authorities.

The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, who said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner and Coroner’s Office on May 21 identified the pedestrian as Salvador Montelongo, a 32-year-old Gilroy resident.

The accident is being investigated by the Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigations Team (M.A.I.T.), police said.
