This week, Gilroy Police responded to a sampling of crime, including burglaries, grand thefts, counterfeit and drunk car crashes. Here are a few events:

Cash stolen by relative

At 5 p.m. on Nov. 27, $13,000 in cash was stolen from a bedroom on the 500 block of Stoney Court. The victim said the suspect is a relative of hers, and is the only other person who had access to her locked bedroom where the money was contained. Police have a suspect in mind.

Man brandishes screwdriver

A man was hanging Christmas lights in his front yard on the 7500 block of Rogers Lane at 3:25 p.m. on Nov. 25 when another man passed by and whipped out a screwdriver and made a few racial slurs. The victim said that there was history between him and the suspect over dating the same person once, said Police Sgt. Pedro Espinoza. No threats were made.

Counterfeit arrest

Laura Tucker, 43, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 30 for passing a counterfeit $100 bill at a taco stand on 10th and Monterey. Despite claiming that she received the bill from a relative and did not know it was counterfeit, she was taken to Santa Clara County Jail for charges of forgery. Espinoza said that it’s very common for suspects to claim they received the bill elsewhere, whether they are guilty or not.

Drunk car crash

Chris Mirelez was allegedly driving drunk at 5:27 p.m. on Nov. 30 when he smashed into two parked cars on Welburn and Wren Avenues, causing minor damage. Mirelez was driving a 1991 silver Toyota Camry. He was taken the booking station at the Gilroy Police Department and released with a court date when he had sobered, Espinoza said.

Shed raid on Monte Bello

At 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 30, a suspect broke into a backyard shed to a residence on Monte Bello Drive and stole more than $1,000 in electronics, $2,000 in tools and personal items and about $150 in bottles of liquor.
