The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is warning residents about an email scam circulating across the bay area in which an unknown sender threatens the reader with an unexpected eviction.
“This notice is to inform you that your home has been foreclosed on by the bank and you need to move out,” reads one of the fake eviction emails sent by scammers provided by the DA’s office in a fraudulent press release alert.
Within the fake email is an attachment that purportedly contains instructions on how to buy more time before the supposed eviction, but the DA’s office is reminding residents to never click on an attachment from an unknown sender.
Residents who have a mortgage and receive this type of threatening email should contact their mortgage holder directly, instead of following the instructions read from a threatening message.
“If you have concerns, you should go to your mortgage statement, find that phone number and call your mortgage holder … ” reads the press release.
