A 14-year-old girl went missing from an advanced high school on Gavilan College’s campus this morning, only to surface at noon when she called police to tell them she had been abducted.

The girl, a student at the Gilroy Early College Academy – a specialized high school run by the Gilroy Unified School District and located on Gavilan’s campus in the foothills west of Gilroy – went to her first class this morning, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Sung said. Mid-morning, staff at the school noticed she was gone, but that her books were still at the school, and reported her absence to campus security and the principal around 10 a.m.

The victim was walking through Parking Lot C when a white cargo van backed into a parking space and several men jumped out of the rear door and pulled her into the van, Sung said. The suspects drove around the city for two hours until they realized they had the wrong person, the girl told deputies.

“We don’t know who they were looking for or if that person actually exists,” Sung said. “Those are things our deputies need to figure out.”

About 12 p.m., the men dropped the girl off a few miles from campus near the intersection of U.S. 101 and Highway 25. She immediately called police from her cell phone and reported that she had been kidnapped. She is safe and was not sexually assaulted, Sung confirmed. About 1 p.m., she stood answering questions with deputies in the Gavilan parking lot. Deputies had roped off several parking spaces with yellow crime tape.

Sung did not know who the men were looking for or what motives they might have had. The girl told police she did not know the three men in the van.

As of 5 p.m., deputies had not located the van or the three suspects, Sung said. They are currently searching for a white, late model cargo van with an unknown plate number. The girl described the men as all white males dressed in black. One was heavy set, between 300 and 350 pounds, 6 feet tall, bald and wearing a hooded jacket. Another was heavy set, between 250 and 300 pounds and 6 feet tall. The girl only described the third as “skinny.”
