Cal grant deadline
SACRAMENTO
– Cal Grants are available to students graduating from high
school who have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) and the Cal Grant Grade Point Average Verification
forms available in high school counseling offices. Cal Grants cover
full tuition at California State Univers
ity or University of California and up to $8,832 at a private
college. Cal Grants are awarded based on family income levels and a
high school grade point average of at least 3.0 for those students
attending a four-year university. Deadline to submit is March 3.

Adult Volleyball League

GILROY – Gilroy Community Services offers a Volleyball League for persons 18 years and older. Co-Rec, Men and Women leagues are being formed now. Games are played on Sundays at Wheeler Community Center Gym. The season consists of 10 games and play-offs for first and second place if necessary. The deadline to sign up for the current season will be March 1. Leagues are subject to cancellation if the number of teams does not meet the minimum. Support ghs journalism

GILROY – The Gilroy High School journalism department is holding a garage sale Saturday, March 8 to raise funds to send students to this year’s Journalism Education Association’s conference. The sale will take place starting at 7 a.m. at 1487 Lupine Court. Those interested in making donations to the journalism department or purchasing advertisements in The Free Press, can contact advisor Elizabeth Baker-Chapman at Gilroy High School, 847-2424. St. paddy’s dinner

GILROY – St. Joseph’s Family Center will be holding its annual St. Patrick’s Dinner on Saturday, March 15 at the St. Mary’s Auditorium, 11 First Street. Appetizers and no-host cocktails will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 7 p.m. Included in the evening’s activities will be a raffle, silent auction and entertainment. Tickets are a donation of $25 each and may be purchased at St. Joseph’s Family Center, 7950 Church St., Suite A. You may purchase raffle tickets for $1 each or $10 for a book of 11. Gala school fund raiser

GILROY – Pacific West Christian Academy will hold its sixth annual Spring Gala Auction and Dinner on March 15. The event will be held at San Juan Oaks Country Club in San Juan Bautista. The school has recently purchased 2 acres in Gilroy with the goal of moving within three years, and needs help to make the move a success.
