GILROY – Applications are now available for Gilroy High School seniors interested in applying for the 2003 Odyssey Theatre Company Community Scholarship. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified Gilroy High senior entering his or her first year of college in the fall of 2003. To qualify, the student must graduate from Gilroy High in June 2003 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (four-year cumulative), have experience in community and extracurricular activities (with a particular emphasis in theater arts) and complete the scholarship application. The deadline for submitting a completed application packet is Thursday, May 1. Applications are available in the College and Career Center at Gilroy High School. Details: Carol Smith at 847-2424.
Students awarded at Ambassador’s Ball
GILROY – Five students will compete for scholarships on Friday, May 2, at the 16th Annual Gilroy Hispanic Chamber Ambassador’s Ball. Angelica Olmos, Lupe Ramirez, Miriam Silvas, Marbella Tovar and Victor Velasco are finalists in the areas of leadership, community service and academic success. All five will receive scholarships that range from $800 to $2,850. The Ambassador Ball began in 1988 to acknowledge and encourage young adults with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher who are involved in some aspect of community service to continue their education and support them in attending a four-year university. Applications were received from Gilroy and Gavilan students and were open to both male and female students. The event will be held at the Elk’s Lodge with dinner at 7 p.m. and a program following. Spaghetti feed
GILROY – The Gilroy Senior Advisory Board is having a spaghetti feed on Saturday, May 3, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and punch. Adults are $5, children $3, and take-out will be available. Tickets may be purchased at the Senior Center gift shop. Details: 848-0465.
Rummage for Grad Night
GILROY – The Gilroy High School Grad Night Rummage Sale will take place on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school. To donate rummage for the sale, bring it to room G-3 between 6:30 and 8 p.m. on May 2. Details: 848-6310.
Fun in the sun
GILROY – On Saturday, May 3, from noon to 4 p.m., children of all ages can have fun in the sun at the Premium Outlets first Children’s Fair. Located in the Building C, the fair will include jump houses, free children’s fingerprinting by the Gilroy Police Department, a craft corner, games, prizes, music, entertainment, a raffle and more. All proceeds from the fair will benefit the Oakland Children’s Hospital, the local Miracle Network affiliated hospital. Auntie Anne’s Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels will give participants the opportunity to learn the art of twisting their very own pretzel. Details: 842-3729.
Krazy going away party
GILROY – Help the Krazy Koyote Bar and Grill send Russ and Nancy Hendrickson off with a big bang on Saturday, May 10, at noon. The Hendricksons have been active in Gilroy’s theater community for years and are now taking their talents to Oregon.
The buffet style meal will include teriyaki chicken, salad, rice, chile beans, garlic bread and a drink. Wine will be provided.

GILROY – There will be an Ohlone Life Tour at Chitactac, Adams Heritage County Park, on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. Discover how the native Ohlone people lived and used the resources along Uvas Creek for their everyday needs. The park is located on Watsonville Road at Burchell Road.

GILROY – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is holding a meeting to provide the public an opportunity to participate in the development of the Fiscal Year 2004 budget. Hands-on art for kids
GILROY – This year’s “Kids Discover Arts” festival will be held on Saturday, May 10, at Wheeler Community Center. This annual “hands-on” arts festival is a free, day-long event where children ages 5 to 11 can experience all media of the visual arts. Over 25 workshops led by volunteer artisans from the Gilroy area, including fine arts, ethnic art and art using natural and recycled materials are available for all to enjoy. Those interested in participating can pre-register through Wednesday, May 8, at Community Services, 7351 Rosanna St., and should arrive at the festival at 9 a.m. Others should arrive at 10 a.m. Organizers are also seeking neck ties to be used in one of the art projects. Poultry, rabbits and goats … oh my!
SAN MARTIN – Come learn about rabbits, poultry, pygmy goats, entomology and bee-keeping at the Santa Clara County
4-H sponsored countywide Small Animal Field Day, on Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the San Martin Lions Club. See what it’s like to care for a small animal. Learn about showing, proper handling, grooming and how to pick out a proper pet or show animals. There will be demonstrations, games, informational displays, a barbecue lunch and other activities. Fly-in for Cinco De Mayo
SAN MARTIN – The Cinco de Mayo Wings of History will fly into the South County Airport on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4, from sunup to sundown.
