Wind of a Thousand Tales

by John Glore, music and lyrics by Diane King, which showcases
folktales and myths from around the world. Show times are Friday at
7:30 p.m, Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5, $3 for
children. Rucker is located at 325 Santa Clara Ave., east of
Monterey Street. The annual play is a more than 100-year-old
tradition. Performances will be put on Feb. 11 and 14 for students

‘American Ideal’ last chance

GILROY – John Bisceglie’s newest musical, “American Ideal,” runs Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with a bonus Sunday show at 6 p.m. Performances are at Old City Hall. All seats are $10. There is limited seating, and reservations are strongly recommended.

Family fun night out

GILROY – Come to the Wheeler Community Center on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a night of fun with the family. Play games, do arts and crafts, sing karaoke, bounce around in the jump house and enjoy refreshments. The fee is $25 for a family of four and $5 for each additional member. Sponsor Rod’s Trod

GILROY – Rod Kelley School will hold its annual “Rod’s Trod,” a benefit walk-a-thon on Saturday, March 29. During the event, students walk laps around the field to earn donations from friends and family. Local companies and organizations can help the school by sponsoring students or donating services. Local companies can become sponsors for the Rod’s Trod with a minimum $200 donation. In exchange, the school will list sponsoring businesses on the official event T-shirts. Also, any services or goods that could be donated are welcome. The deadline for donations is Feb. 15. Details: 848-6483.

Benefit seafood feast

GILROY – The Gilroy Knights of Columbus Council 2469 will host a Crab Feed at Cullen Hall, St. Mary Parish on Saturday, Feb. 15. Happy hour is 6 p.m., with the Crab Feed at 7 p.m. Proceeds from this event will benefit Knights of Columbus scholarships and other charitable activities. Support GHS colorguard

GILROY – This Saturday, Feb. 15, The Gilroy High School Band/Colorguard program hosts the second annual Winter Guard Invitational at the GHS Main Gym. 13 Color Guard groups (and the GHS Winter Percussion) will perform. The Snack Bar will be open, offering hot foods and snacks as well as hot and cold beverages. Assistance League grants

GILROY – The Gilroy Assistance League is accepting grant requests for 2003. Last year, GALS gave out over $9,000 to various local youth causes, including Brownell Academy Music Department, Gilroy Community Youth Center, GHS Grad Night, and St. Joseph’s Family Center. Soccer sign-ups in a flash

GILROY – Teens interested in playing for the Orchard Valley Flash, a girls traveling soccer team this spring, should contact Coach Ballan Campeau at 782-2853. Girls on the team are from Gilroy, Morgan Hill and south San Jose. The season will run from April through May with practices starting in March. Players must not be 16 years old before Aug. 1 this year.

Honor your teacher

GILROY – The Teacher of the Year grant is given annually to recognize outstanding teachers and the schools in which they teach. Nominations and balloting will take place through March 7 at the Gilroy Wal-Mart. On May 6, in conjunction with National Teacher’s Day they will present a check to the winning teachers. All applications will be located at the Customer Service Desk. All public, non-profit private and non-profit parochial schools offering K through 12th grades qualify. Create your own TV show

GILROY – Locall television station Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is looking for residents of Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista to become producers, cast and crews of their own TV shows. CMAP invites the public to come tour the facilities and find out how to get involved. The community television station offers orientation workshops on the first Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on the third Tuesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gavilan Television Studio (L140). SHARE food cooperative

GILROY – SHARE is a nonprofit organization that provides access to affordable food and opportunities to improve the community. Participants in SHARE receive approximately $30 per month of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables and other grocery items for $15 plus two hours of volunteer time. ‘Lend me a Tenor’

MORGAN HILL – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Lend me a Tenor,” an adult comedy about the mishaps of a world famous tenor during opening night 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. Performances are held at Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, on the corner of Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue. 8 p.m. performances are held on Feb. 14, 15, 21, 22, 28 and March 1 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Feb. 23. Kinkade highlighter to visit

MORGAN HILL – Hometown Gallery will host a Thomas Kinkade master highlighter on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Certified Master Highlighters are trained using Kinkade’s personal highlighting techniques to add dimension making each piece a unique work of art.
