District are invited to a reception to meet Dr. Steven M. Kinsella,
the new superintendent/president of Gavilan College on Thursday,
Jan. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Student Center, Gavilan College

r. Kinsella took office as Gavilan College President on Jan. 1.
This is a return to Gavilan College for the Morgan Hill resident.
He was employed as the Dean of Business Services at Gavilan College
in the 1990’s, and is looking forward to working with the campus

Science alive!
GILROY – Middle school students and their parents are invited to participate in a day of fun and learning. This academic enrichment, Saturday event introduces middle school students (grades 6 to 8) to math and science through fun, hands-on activities. Students will choose workshops among such topics as: Solving Rubik’s Cube, All about Worms, Polymers, Motorcycle Mania and more. There will also be workshops for parents: Financial Aid: Funding for College, Preparation for High School and College – What Parents Should Know, and What’s After High School. All of the parent’s workshops will be offered in both English and Spanish. The registration fee is $10 per person. A limited number of reduced-fee scholarships are available for low-income students. Try out for softball
GILROY – The Gilroy 12U girls fast-pitch softball team is holding tryouts on Sunday, Feb. 2 and 9 at Christmas Hill Park’s Ranch Field. Pitchers and catchers begin tryouts at 10 a.m., all other positions at 11. Details: 842-6828.
Feast on crab
GILROY – The Gilroy Knights of Columbus Council 2469 will host a Crab Feed at Cullen Hall, St. Mary Parish on Saturday, Feb. 15. Happy hour is 6 p.m, and the Crab Feed begins at 7. Proceeds from this event will benefit Knights of Columbus scholarships and other charitable activities. Refresh driving skills
MORGAN HILL – AARP’s refresher course for motorists age 50 and older will be held on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Morgan Hill. Participants will familiarize themselves with driver safety, the new Department of Motor Vehicles tests and laws. Three year DMV certificates are awarded for discounts on your own auto insurance.
