• Gilroy – Entries are now being accepted for the California Coastal Commission’s 2005 amateur photography contest. To be eligible, entrants must earn less than half of their income through photography. Entrants are encouraged to submit photos of the scenic coast, ways people use the coast and coastal wildlife.

Prizes include a trip to Los Angeles and a yacht cruise. Entries must be postmarked by July 8.

Join Rotary Club celebration

• Gilroy – Come join the celebration on Saturday, as Coto de Caza/Rancho Santa Margarita Rotarian Nathan Auerbach walks through Gilroy on his quest to bring awareness to Rotary’s mission to eradicate polio.

This crippling disease can be cured and Nathan’s amazing 500-mile walk from Tijuana to Vancouver, British Columbia is highlighting the need to keep up the hard work.

Please join Nathan at South Valley National Bank (First Street and Santa Teresa Boulevard) at 11:45am Saturday and walk with him up First Street to the Gilroy Visitors Bureau at 7780 Monterey St., before he continues his journey north to Vancouver.

Learn business accounting

• Gilroy – QuickBooks 2005 is one of the most widely used small business accounting software programs available to small business owners.

This course is a three-week progressive course that takes you through the very basics of getting your business started to learning how to synchronize your QuickBooks contacts with other contact management programs such as Outlook.

Join the 2005 auto, truck show

• Gilroy – The Gilroy Elks’ Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Highway, extends a special invitation to all owners of autos and trucks made prior to 1972, to join the 2005 Annual Auto Car And Truck Show on June 18.

Registration fee is $25 per automobile and includes a lunch ticket. Deadline for regular registration is June 7.

Late registration will be considered up to the date of the event at a registration fee of $35.

On June 18, registration will be held from 9:30 to 10:45am, followed by the spectator show and judging from 11am to 3pm and prizes and acknowledgments at 3:15pm. Parking starts at 9:30am.

Bring the entire family to enjoy the auto show, food, refreshments and raffle drawing. A no-host bar will be open. Raffles prizes include tools, gift certificates, dinners, auto related car care products and gift baskets.

All proceeds will benefit local benefactors of the lodge.

Shelter accepting used items

• San Martin – The San Martin Animal Shelter is accepting reuseable furniture, cabinets, chairs, toys, tools, pet supplies, small appliances and household items for their annual Rummage Sale which will be held on June 17, 18 and 19.

Donations can be dropped off during normal business hours, from noon to 5pm Wednesdays through Sundays at 12370 Murphy Ave.

Proceeds from the sale will help purchase food and medical supplies needed for the animals at the shelter.
