Kaiser Parking Lot (7520 Arroyo Circle).

Gilroy – More than 100 agencies and programs will provide much needed medical screenings and health information free of charge to residents of Gilroy on Saturday, from 10am to 3pm in the Gilroy Kaiser Parking Lot (7520 Arroyo Circle).

The focus of the event is to address the increasing health risks related to obesity and diabetes in Gilroy.

The Gilroy community is considered at high risk for developing diabetes and other health risk due to it’s high rate of obesity.

Activities planned include, free health screenings, fat testing, ‘Talk with a Doc’ (an opportunity to speak with a community physician for 20 minutes, one on one, free of charge), free child immunizations, a children’s activity area, Hula-Hoop contest (grand prize will be a bicycle), cooking demonstrations, entertainment and prizes.

NJ basketball sign-ups begin today

National Junior Basketball is a non-profit youth basketball league with more than 25,000 players in six states.

South County NJB sign-ups for boys and girls grades 3-8 will be held today and Sunday, and Oct. 2 and 3, from 10am to 2pm at Sears, 835 1st St., Gilroy.

Look for the blue canopy. Registration fees are $150 per player. There is a 10 percent discount for each additional sibling.

Please bring a copy of players birth certificate, most recent report card and utility bill for address verification.

The Santa Clara County YMCA is registering for youth and adult sports, child care and wellness programs. The YMCA offers a wide variety of sports, youth and wellness programs in addition to child care, after school and Teen Centers.
