– A group of Gavilan College students called Operation: Fire
Prevention is holding a fund-raising dinner and raffle on behalf of
the Gilroy Fire Department. The buffet tri-tip dinner and raffle
will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gavilan
College Student Center with raffles hel
d at 7 and 8 p.m. The menu is tri-tip, pasta, caesar salad,
garlic bread, dessert and a beverage. Dinner tickets are $15 each
and include an entry for the door prizes. Raffle tickets are $1
each, and they will be sold at the dinner. Money raised will be
donated to the GFD’s Public Education Program.

Scouting for food

GILROY – Bay Area Boy Scouts will help stock the shelves of local food banks on Saturday, Nov. 16, when scouts will take part in the “Scouting for Food” food drive. On Nov. 9, scouts canvassed neighborhoods, distributing collection bags. On Nov. 16, residents are asked to leave the bags on their doorstep before 9 a.m., filled with non-perishable, nutritious food items. These donations will be distributed to Bay Area food banks, including St. Joseph’s Family Center in Gilroy. Details:

Gav hair style Show

GILROY – The Gavilan College Cosmetology Department annual Scholarship Fund raiser and Dinner Dance will be held Friday, Nov. 15 in the Gilroy Elks Lodge, 2765 Hecker Pass Road, starting at 6:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to a show of between 50 and 80 hair styles created by the students of the Gavilan College Cosmetology Department on live models. Both casual and formal styles will be exhibited. Afterwards, there will be dinner and dancing. The menu features chicken with white wine sauce, barbeque Santa Maria Steak, vegetable, potato, salad and coffee. There will be a no-host cocktail bar. Tickets are $35, $25 for students.

Food For Families

GILROY – Customers at Raley’s family of stores can help feed a neighboring family while shopping for their own meals. Food For Families, the nonprofit program that gives food banks a chance to fill their pantry needs, is seeking non-perishable food and cash donations. Now through Jan. 3, Food For Families donation bins can be found at 132 Raley’s, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source locations throughout California, New Mexico and Northern Nevada, including the Nob Hill location on First Street in Gilroy. Holiday arts and crafts

GILROY – The City of Gilroy Community Services presents its 34th annual Christmas Arts and Crafts Show on Friday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is 50 cents.
