Pennant-happy Dirty Dozen stormed into the Men’s CC League
playoffs Monday with a 7-2 victory over Carreiro’s Plastering at
Christmas Hill Park.
GILROY – Pennant-happy Dirty Dozen stormed into the Men’s CC League playoffs Monday with a 7-2 victory over Carreiro’s Plastering at Christmas Hill Park.
The Dirty Dozen earned the first-half CCC crown, then rolled to a 5-1 mark in the CC competition.
The Dozen will face either the Playaz or Las Animas Sweepers in the best 2-of-3 Championship Series opening Monday Aug. 16.
Carreiro’s shared first place at 4-1 with the Dozen entering Monday’s showdown.
The Plasterers held the lead, 2-1, when Bobby Granados and Steve Boyd hit consecutive sacrifice flies in the second inning.
A Benny Naranjo sacrifice fly in the third brought the Dozen even. An Art Naranjo sacrifice fly and run-scoring single from Xavier Puente gave the Dirty team a 4-2 lead.
Eric Contreras capped the victory when his home run to right field reached the picnic tables.
Joel Garcia scored two Dirty Dozen runs. Brent Boyd went 3-for-3 for Carreiro’s Plastering.
Eric Lopez, John Cornell and Dave Meacham each blasted three hits to spark South County Rockery and Building Materials (3-3) past No Soup 4 You 11-4.
Nick Vatalaro singled an doubled, driving in two Rockery runs. Randy Newton went 3-for-5 and Kevin Gitmed singled and doubled for the Soup.
Malibu Heating and Air Conditioning surprised the Las Animas Sweepers 10-9. Gabriel Hernandez went 3-for-5, Rick Hattaway 3-for-4 for the winners. Danny Granados singled home Michael Mendoza with the winning run in the top of the seventh for Malibu.
Kevin Orozco muscled two home runs worth five runs for the Sweepers. Brian Cortez hit a solo homer, Mitch Pierce a two-run single for Las Animas.
Campbell’s Towing earned a spot in the Men’s CCC League playoff with a 15-7 decision over Countryside Daycare Center Monday at Las Animas Park.
Campbell’s and Countryside each brought a 4-1 record into Monday’s encounter, with the winner to meet 5-1 Krazy Koyote at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 11 at Las Animas.
Adrian Quintero went 4-for-5 and Jesse Rawlins crunched a three-run home run for Campbell’s.
Charlie Roe and Dave DeCarlo each went 3-for-3 for the Daycare Center.
Countryside will represent the first half of the CCC League in the playoffs. Countryside finished second to Dirty Dozen in the first half, but the Dozen will play in the CC League post-season.
Countryside will face either Krazy Koyote on Campbell’s beginning Monday Aug. 16.
Bob Steve went 5-for-5 to ignite the Desperados by Extreme Air Poor Boys 12-10. Dave Bruni and Steve each scored four Desperados runs. Shawn Penzo went 4-for-5, Joe Vasquez 3-for-5 for the Poor Boys.
Jason Lange hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run sixth inning, giving Morgan Hill Bible Church a 13-11 nod over RMC Engineering. David Jackson, Mike Petenel and Jeff Duarte each went 3-for-3 for the Church. Angel Trujillo went 4-for-4 and Mario Trujillo collected three hits and scored twice for RMC.
