• Yes. I feel safe in Gilroy especially compared to other cities I visit.
• Yes I feel safe! There is not a city in America with no crime. Gilroy is no different. It is up to each individual to be diligent regarding their own safety. Be aware of where you are at all times. I do,  and I feel safe. If I felt threatened, I know that a 911 call would bring me backup in minutes! n Yes.  I’ve been a Gilroy resident since 1968.  I feel very safe.  No matter where we are though, precautions need to be taken to keep secure, be aware of our surroundings, protect ourselves and call 911 if there is any indication of safety risk.
• I feel safe and I reinforce this feeling by being sensible: aware of my surroundings; travel in groups when needed; take care of my purse; park under the lights in dark parking lots; be prepared. When I wonder how Gilroy is doing, I look at the crime statistics and over-the-year trends.
• I feel mostly safe but I do avoid parks, dark streets, industrial areas and certain areas on the east side. Â
• Yes, mostly. Don’t feel threatened but uncomfortable near Gilroy Crossing with the wandering homeless.
• Yes, mostly. Trash, homelessness, empty buildings, unkempt and ugly landscaping and infrastructure, poor lighting, and graffiti are broken windows that send a message that an area is potentially unsafe. If the City were to remove the visual cues associated with crime the perception that parts of Gilroy are unsafe would be diminished significantly.
• Yes I feel safe in Gilroy. And I have great neighbors and we look out for each other.
• Yes! I think our town is still small town enough and neighborly enough that people are aware of each other and our homes, and it is a good feeling. Yes, as we grow bigger, and we get more of an influx of people, things might change but overall, Gilroy is a great place to be and live as long as we continue to welcome others into our community here. n Yes. There are areas I avoid but not many!
• Yes, mostly, but unfortunately not in our parks.
