There is standing water next to the baseball backstop at El Roble Park, on Santa Theresa Drive. It’s muddy in many spots. I’ve talked to the school district and they say the right things, but overwatering is overwatering and they shouldn’t be allowed to do it. Cut it back to one day a week watering, not three times a week. It’s a mess. Thank you very much.
Red Phone:
Red phone dove deep into this problem, good caller, by contacting the Gilroy Unified School District Maintenance Department Manager Dan McAuliffe. There have been drainage issues in the playground of El Roble Elementary School that shares a common border with El Roble Park.
In fact, readers can access satellite photographs of El Roble Park at gotparks.com/?type=all&s=CA&f=1835031 and zoom in, what appears next to the baseball backstop is a large pond of water.
The maintenance department has addressed this area before and has greatly reduced watering the last several months.
“The issue is drainage and we are working up a plan to take to our Facility Subcommittee meeting to make them aware of the issue and what options we propose to remedy them,” McAuliffe said. “The drainage problems will take some work to fully resolve the issues properly. Our grounds staff is currently completing a landscape project at another site and will adjust their schedule to make this project the next in line. This is on our departments priority list to get done ASAP.”
So, good caller, Red Phone commends you for your reporting this problem, which has accelerated the remedy.
