Over the past few days, police have responded to several incidents in which drugs caused suspects to behave erratically. Here are a few of those events:
Man allegedly whips out hatchet at police
At 7:12 a.m. on Aug. 6, 48-year-old John Bowles of Gilroy was allegedly caught trespassing into a home on the 7200 of Church Street. When police found him in the backyard, he whipped out a 13-inch utility hatchet and failed to follow police orders, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao. Police Tasered Bowles and hit him with a baton when he attempted to flee. He was found to be under the influence of methamphetamine, and was arrested for brandishing a deadly weapon, trespassing, resisting arrest, tampering with a vehicle and being under the influence of a narcotic. Bowles was taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital before we was transferred to Santa Clara County Jail.
Police say drug-induced man resists arrest
At 1:56 p.m. on Aug. 6, Patrick Caudill, 31 of Gilroy, was found in several vehicle code violations as he rode his bike on Hanna Street near Third Street. When police tried to make contact with him, he attempted to flee, Gallacinao said. He was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of a meth pipe and for being under the influence of a controlled substance. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
Man arrested for false imprisonment while allegedly on drugs
Police were dispatched to Safeway on First Street for when a non-Safeway employee allegedly barricaded himself in the employee area of the building at 2:38 a.m. on Aug. 7, throwing computers and other equipment to keep the door shut. A female Safeway employee was in the employee area at the time. Police Tasered the man, 27-year-old Gilroy resident Robert Palacios, and arrested him for vandalism, false imprisonment and for being under the influence of narcotics. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.
