DUI crackdown

On Friday at 7:20 p.m., Billy Gidding, 31, was arrested for driving under the influence after losing control of his 1994 Chevrolet truck and careening into a tree on Wren Avenue near Antonio Del Buono Elementary School. Gilroy police arrested Gidding, who was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.

CHP checkpoint in Morgan Hill this Friday

The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests – in the county as a whole – from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 13 DUI deployments in Santa Clara County.

Since 12:01 a.m. Friday Dec. 14, 2012 through midnight Sunday, officers representing Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies arrested 242 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2011, 226 DUI arrests occurred during the same 10-day time period.

Over the course of the next several days of the campaign, extra DUI Saturation Patrols will be deployed in the cities of Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Los Gatos, Santa Clara and San Jose.  

DUI checkpoints will be conducted in Morgan Hill this Friday. The CHP is deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period this holiday through midnight on Tuesday. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts.
