Eat, Drink Well, Raise Funds
This is one of your last chances to open your wallet and get a tax write off–not to mention some of the finest food and drink in Gilroy.
The Winter Solstice Winemaker’s Dinner is being held on Dec. 21, with five courses and appropriate spirits, to benefit the Gilroy High School Chamber Choir.
The dinner starts at 6 p.m. and is $85 a person at Cafe Thyme at 433 First St. The menu is by chef Scott Tyler Murdock. For reservations, call (408) 413-1250.
Senior Ball
The Gilroy Youth Commission and the Gilroy Rotary Club in collaboration with the City of Gilroy Recreation Department present the “Under the Sea” Senior Citizens Ball on Jan. 7. Tickets may be purchased at the Gilroy Senior Center or the Recreation Department Office. Music is by DJ Michael Malinao. It goes from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St. Tickets: $15 pre-sale/$20 at the door. Contact: (408) 846-0460.
Age well, drive smart
The California Highway Patrol’s Hollister-Gilroy Area office and its Senior Volunteers are presenting a free driving seminar called, “Age Well Drive Smart.”. The presentation lasts three hours and is designed to help senior drivers tune up driving skills, refresh knowledge of the rules of the road and learn about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust to them. It will also talk about the forbidden topic, by some, of when it might be time to stop driving.
The presentation is Wednesday, Dec. 28 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Gilroy Community Library located at 350 W Sixth Street, Gilroy.

Oversee This
Volunteers are being sought to serve on the Gavilan College Measure E Citizen’s Oversight Committee, not to be confused with the Gilroy Unified School District’s Measure E.
Seats are open for a business representative, an at-large representative, and a member of a senior citizens’ organization.
The group meets several times a year to review expenditures for and the annual audit of Gavilan’s Measure E, the $108 million bond measure passed by college district voters in 2004.
The money will upgrade and renovate buildings and improve safety.
The next meeting of the citizens’ group is 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Gavilan College Aviation Maintenance Training facility at the San Martin Airport. Anyone interested can find more information and an application online at: http://bit.ly/2h1fu4x.
