Local women will portray the lives of Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony, Mother Teresa, Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan. Each story will be narrated with the character also speaking a bit and finishing each story with a song reflecting her particular challenges. Director Nancy McDowell wrote the script and some of the song lyrics.

Beverly Olivier-Blount, a local artist and violinist, will perform the part of Harriet Tubman. Krystal Duran, a San Benito High School music and drama student will perform the part of Mother Teresa as a young nun, and actor and singer Beth McCallon will perform Mother Teresa at a later stage.

Shantel Jackson, who was hearing-impaired until receiving a cochlear implant, will perform the part of Helen Keller as a child, and Ivory Trams, who is hearing impaired and sings with the help of a hearing aid, will perform the part of Keller as an adult. She will also sign her song. Heidi Henderson will perform the part of Anne Sullivan.

The part of Susan B. Anthony will be acted by artist Laura Bell, and the judge in her trial for voting illegally will be played by local superior court judge Thomas Breen.

The concert will take place May 15 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, beginning at 3:30pm. The silent auction will begin at 2:30pm. Tickets are $10 and are available at The Wellness Clinic, Dorothy McNett’s Place and Kelly’s Gifts. Childcare will be provided for children under 5 years old.
