The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement today for Gilroy and surrounding areas. Beginning Friday and ending early next week, temperatures could reach the mid-90s to about 101 degrees Saturday and Sunday. The temperature will begin to cool for the Fourth of July holiday Monday, but will remain above normal for the start of the month according to the weather service.

Temperatures are 15 and 20 degrees above the average seen this time of the year, according to NWS.

The weather service also stresses to never leave children and pets alone or locked in a car, to check on the elderly and those who are sensitive to the heat, stay hydrated outside and wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothes.
