Gilroy – April 1 is shaping up to be a very big day for Ghost stories … no fooling.

Gilroy’s own Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero has lined up an April Fool’s Day fight on Showtime at the Palace Indian Gaming Center in Lemoore. His opponent will be Adrian Valdez of Mexico, according to Guerrero’s publicist Mario Serrano, and the headline event will be the Ghost’s first under new co-manager Shelly Finkel.

Valdez (16-3-3), ranked No. 38 in the world, shouldn’t pose a huge challenge NABF featherweight champion Guerrero – though anytime two southpaws collide things can get interesting fast.

No, the big news is the new multi-year management contract Guerrero has signed with the legendary Finkel. The Ghost’s new manager was instrumental in the careers of such boxing superstars as Mike Tyson, Pernell Whitaker and Evander Holyfield, while his current stable includes featherweights Ricardo Juarez (22-0) and WBA and IBF champ Manny Pacquiao (39-2-2), and WBA lightweight title-holder Juan Diaz (27-0).

“Shelly Finkel is like signing with the Yankees of boxing,” said Serrano.
