Gilroy firefighters quickly put a lid on a fire that sparked in an outbuilding adjacent to a Ninth Street alleyway Monday afternoon.

The blaze, which ignited behind a home on Hanna Street near the intersection of Ninth Street around 4:30 p.m., sent a plume of dark smoke above the southwestern portion of downtown.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
