Gilroy – The fourth victim of a crash on Highway 152 was positively identified by Santa Clara County coroners Wednesday. Remains of the four victims were badly burned in the collision, and required identification using dental records and DNA.
Eric Hsu, 44, of Milpitas, was driving the 1999 Toyota 4-Runner that was struck head-on by a delivery truck while eastbound at 9:20am Dec. 27. The driver of the delivery truck, Christopher Yu, 24, of West Covina, was westbound when he veered into the opposing lane, hit a Freightliner big rig before colliding head-on with the SUV.
The driver of the big rig escaped without injury. Yu suffered cuts to his face and was released the same day.
The delivery truck rolled over and slid partially down an embankment, while Hsu’s SUV was pushed backwards off the embankment and burst into flame, killing the four individuals trapped inside. The three other victims, Susan Chang, 45, 14-year-old Christina Wang, and 11-year-old Diana Wang, are all residents of Pittsford, N.Y.
California Highway Patrol officials are still investigating the collision and why Yu swerved into the eastbound lane however, alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
