Frank Pattie died of complications related to Parkinson’s Disease on March 14, 2014.
Frank was born on August 10, 1924, in Philadelphia to Mark and Mildred Pattie.
After graduating from Germantown High School in 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Force, rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant, and was eventually the pilot of a B-17 aircraft.
In 1947, he married Mary Jane and together they had four children, two of whom, Nancy and Judy, preceded him in death.
After studies at George Washington University, Frank went on to a successful career as a mechanical engineer in both the aerospace and food processing industries.
Originally from the East Coast, Frank and his family moved to California in 1959 from Bethesda, MD. After first settling in Mountain View, they eventually moved to Gilroy in 1967 and settled in on their small farm on Redwood Retreat Road for which he was grateful every day of his life. He loved the land.
Also a lover of music, he was active for many years in the Gilroy Community Theatre and was featured in a variety of musicals on the stage. He was even more frequently to be found in the church performing in church choirs, at retirement communities, and for other special events.
Along with Mary Jane he maintained an active profile as a volunteer in the community visiting the sick and the elderly in homes and retirement communities, and among other activities was for many years an active participant at the Gilroy Garlic Festival.
Frank brought humor, fun, and his gentle spirit to everything he did and to everyone he met. He was truly a great man, a wonderful father, faithful husband, a good friend to be counted on, and will be missed by all.
Frank is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Mary Jane Pattie, his daughter Linda Pattie, his son Steven Pattie, grandson Nathan Norris Pattie and wife Katherine Pattie, and grandson Lucas Ohio Pattie. He is also survived by a large loving circle of nieces nephews, and friends.
