– Authorities today continued to investigate of a 22-year-old
Gilroy man late Thursday night on U.S. 101 at the Dunne Avenue
overcrossing in Morgan Hill. The office of Santa Clara County
Coroner, Dr. Gregory Schmunk, identified the man as Fernando
Soria.
MORGAN HILL – Authorities today continued to investigate of a 22-year-old Gilroy man late Thursday night on U.S. 101 at the Dunne Avenue overcrossing in Morgan Hill. The office of Santa Clara County Coroner, Dr. Gregory Schmunk, identified the man as Fernando Soria.
Acting Sgt. Troy Hoefling of the Morgan Hill Police Department said police initially believed the incident may have been suicide but now are considering other possibilities.
“We’re not sure it’s a suicide,” Hoefling said. “No one saw him jump and there is nothing to show he was struck by a car.” Reports Friday from the MHPD said Soria had been struck by a vehicle and the motorist had left the scene.
Hoefling said police had talked to Soria’s family.
“They were very cooperative and said there was absolutely no reason for him to commit suicide,” he said. “It doesn’t look like anybody was trying to hurt him, either – there was absolutely zero sign of any past gang activity.”
Identification was delayed, according to Friday’s report, because the wallet Soria was carrying belonged to another man who claimed it had been stolen from him two weeks before while he was drinking in a bar
“We are still trying to locate people (Soria) was with or people who saw him earlier in the afternoon,” Hoefling said.
