Online all weekend, the Dispatch staff will be the eyes, ears and taste buds for everything Gilroy Garlic Festival. Sure we’re supposed to remain unbiased, but when it comes to the Garlic Festival, the Dispatch staff can’t hide our love. All hands are on deck – from our reporters to our editors to our photographers – so the Dispatch can bring you all things Garlic Festival on www.gilroydispatch.com, Twitter @gilroydispatch and Facebook/gilroydispatch.

Here are highlights of our planned online coverage:

WE HEART BULBS

Dispatch reporters will detail dozens of things – big and small – that catch our eyes, ears, and of course, tongues. It’s “Things We Love,” and we’re not afraid to flaunt them.

DON’T EAT BREAKFAST

And while it’s not a question often asked – “What have you eaten today?” – when Garlic Festival time comes around, the answers could be as unique as they are pungent. We’ll ask patrons in-between bites of the new scrumptious Alley Wrap or licks of the renown garlic ice-cream how much festival goodness they’ve stuffed down their gullets.

LARGE SERVING OF MUSIC

Welcome back, Lucas Ohio & The Shamblers. Ohio is a burgeoning musician with deep roots in Gilroy, having spent many a summer with his grandparents on Redwood Retreat Road. He’s also purportedly in talks of a record deal. Lucas Ohio & The Shamblers will be playing from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gazebo. Read, and hear, more about the band from us.

FRONT-ROW SEAT

Not to be missed is the epic Garlic Festival Cook-Off at 10 a.m. Saturday on the main stage. A sampling of this year’s entries feature a mouth-watering smorgasbord of tongue-tying dishes like garlic-covered pork and pork-covered garlic, with Roman gnocchi and paprika cream sauce, tomato glazed veal chops with roasted garlic and sage spatezle, garlic and lobster curry corn chowder with sweet potato bites and Thai garlic and hot chili swirl. We’ll post the winner.

GARLIC FASHION STATEMENTS

The Dispatch is making sure certain garlic lovers’ fashion statements don’t go unnoticed. With “Garlic Garb,” we’ll keep a daily running tab on some of the most outrageous – and most delicious – garlic garbs suitable for the best garlic party.

FROM THE STREETS

How do the volunteers organize the tens of thousands of cars filtering into Gilroy? It’s a strategically conducted orchestra. Seriously, it’s a marvel. And what about our friends from outside California? Some have made days-long road trips and even crossed oceans to get to the Fest. Who came the farthest?
