Morgan Hill – The Gilroy Gators took sixth at the Coast Valley Aquatics League championships at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center last weekend as Luke Walton (11-12) emerged from the league finals with an individual high-point title.

Walton, who recently graduated from Gilroy High, also earned a perfect score for winning all four of his events in his division.

In the team competition, the Cabrillo Threshers won another in a string of titles, amassing 3,331 points, and easily outdistancing second place Salinas Valley Aquatics (2,720) and third place Monterey Bay Swim Club (2,287.5).

The Gators won bragging rights for the area, with their sixth-place team finish bettering the Morgan Hill Swim Club (Makos), which finished seventh and San Benito Aquatics in eighth.

Competing in temperatures approaching 100 degrees on Saturday and Sunday of the two-day event, Kate Rick and Kortney Kay led the Makos, while San Benito Aquatics’ Blaine Curtice was top performer for his team.
