Gilroy – Even without any postseason dreams, there is still plenty of life left in Gavilan.

With winning pitcher Jen McBain coming within a triple of the cycle and the Rams scoring in every inning but one, Gavilan defeated Monterey Peninsula College 11-7 Thursday to stretch its season-long win streak to three.

While the win streak may seem modest, this is a school that endured a winless season a year ago, which makes its record (12-24 overall, 6-13) that much more impressive.

“We’re still committing too many errors, but we’re hitting the ball,” Gavilan coach Nikki Dequin-Thompson said. “The wins help build confidence. The girls had fun and have high morale.”

McBain homered, doubled singled, walked and scored three runs to pace the Rams, who scored four in the seventh to break a 7-7 tie.

Megan Smart was safe on an error to start the inning, stole second and scored on Amanda Perez’s RBI single. Melissa Gaxiola then had a bunt single, McBain walked and Rosevear hit a sacrifice fly. Haylie Cloud capped the uprising with a two-run single.

“We’re finally getting some wins under our belt,” Dequin-Thompson said. “Hopefully, we can continue to finish (the season) strong.”

The Rams will complete a span in which they play four games in three days by hosting De Anza in a doubleheader at 1pm today.
