Despite last minute changes to its schedule, the Gavilan softball team came out on top.Â
The Rams, who were originally scheduled to host College of the Sequoias Saturday, ended up playing a double header on the road Friday. They swept the meeting winning the first game 9-5 and the second 7-3.
Sequoias drew first blood in Game 1, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first. Gavilan answered back by scoring two in the second and one in both the third and fourth innings to jump out to a 4-2 lead. The hosts evened the score in the bottom of the fifth, but the Rams scored three in the sixth and two more in the final frame to secure the victory.
Olivia Barajas hit a homer in the first set and had three RBIs and a walk. Samantha Parraz was 1-1 with two RBIs.Â
Game 2 started much the same with Sequoias scoring two in the bottom of the first. But Gavilan’s three run second and five run fifth was too much for the hosts.
Paige Miguel led the Rams going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Kayla Medrano was 1 for 3 with an RBI and run scored, while Mari Rodriguez was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Samantha Ribeiro was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Angelica Carrillo had two runs and a walk.
Gavilan will host West Hills in a double header, the first of which is slated for 1 p.m. and the second for 3 p.m. The contest was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was rescheduled due to weather.
