Gavilan baseball travelled up to Folsom and its sixth straight win Friday, before losing to the Falcons Saturday.
The Rams beat Folsom Lake 6-1 on Friday and were bested 13-4 Saturday, putting them at 6-2 this season.
In Game 1, Gavilan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, thanks to RBI singles from Erik Barron, Sean Allen and Edgar Arriola.
Bryant Cid widened the lead with a two RBI-single in the top of the fourth, which scored Tony Amaral and Brennan Wilson.
Tyler Slayday singled in the top of the seventh to score Barron for Gavilan’s final run.
Cid led the Rams Friday, going 3 for 5 with two RBIs. Barron was 2 for 4 with two runs, an RBI and a walk and a triple. Amaral was 1 for 3 with two runs and two walks.
Gabe Katich picked up his first win on the bump, allowing six hits and two walks while striking out seven over seven innings.
On Saturday, the Rams took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Javier Garcia drove in Tony Amaral.
The lead was short lived, however, as the Falcons posted five runs in the bottom of the second, thanks to three Gavilan errors, to lead 5-1.
Gavilan answered with a run in the top of the third when Arriola singled and Barron reached home after he rounded the bases from first thanks to a Falcons’ error.
The Falcons’ Mykhel Lee widened his teams’ lead to 7-2 with two-RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. They added another in the bottom of the fourth, scoring off a wild pitch.
With two outs in the top of the fifth, Garcia and Arriola both reached on errors. Matt Peterson also reached on an error, allowing enough time for Garcia and Arriola to come home for Gavilan’s final two runs. It cut Folsom Lake’s lead to 8-4 at that point.
The hosts added their final five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Amaral led the team, going 2 for 4 with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base.
Barron was 1 for 5 with a run, Garcia 1 for 4 with a run and Arriola 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI.
Oxner dropped to 0-1 on the season, allowing eight runs—four earned—on five hits over four innings. He also walked two and struck out three.
The two teams will square off once again at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Gavilan.
