The Gavilan men’s team trailed by only six points at halftime against West Valley Friday, but the hosts turned up the heat after the break.
West Valley outscored the Rams by 12 points in the second half to cruise to a 55-37 win. The loss dropped Gavilan to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
Kelli Goodman led the Rams with 10 points in the game, going 4 for 5 from the field and a perfect 2 for 2 from the line. Goodman also came up with five rebounds. 
Djovan Surgick racked up 10 rebounds for Gavilan in the game. 
The Rams will host De Anza at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the last game before their bye.

Mission drops Gavilan
Mission more than doubled the Gavilan women’s basketball team’s score at the break Friday, digging a hole for the Rams that was too big for them to overcome.
The hosts handed Gavilan its eighth straight loss, a 72-40 decision, Friday in Santa Clara. 
Mission had already built itself a comfortable 48-22 lead at the half before outscoring the Rams 24-18 after the break.

Gavilan will play its final game before the bye against De Anza at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home.
