San Mateo scored 10 runs in the first three innings of Saturday’s game at Gavilan and it was too much for the Rams to overcome
Gavilan lost its third straight, falling 13-5 to College of San Mateo who racked up 17 hits in the game.
Scott Tall got the loss, pitching two innings while giving up eight runs — seven earned — on six hits while walking three.
The Rams scored a run in the bottom of the second and third innings, but were unable to push any more across until the bottom of the ninth.
DJ Santellano hit an RBI single to score Andrew Bueno before the Rams were able to load the bases. Erick Zepeda was hit by pitch with the bags full, allowing Jalen Salazar to score. Max Crowley reached on a fielder’s choice to score Santellano and Gavilan’s final run of the game.
Santellano was 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI.
Gavilan will be back on the diamond at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Hartnell.
