The Gavilan and Ohlone volleyball teams went back and forth in Set 1 of Wednesday’s match-up. But after the Rams recorded the first victory, 25-22, it was smooth sailing for Gavilan, which won in straight sets in Fremont.
The Rams dominated the Renegades, winning Set 2 by a lopsided score of 25-3. Set 3 was a similar tale with Gavilan winning 25-14.
Ohlone didn’t make things easy for the Rams in the first set and led 18-17 late. In Set 2, the Rams jumped out to a 9-3 lead early and never looked back.
Samantha Nydam led the team on offense with eight kills. Alexia Balistreri added seven kills, two solo blocks and an ace. Madison Hartman knocked down six kills in the game and served up two aces. Erica Chapa racked up 22 assists in the game.
The Rams are now 2-0 in conference play and 7-7 overall. They will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hartnell in Salinas.
