The Rams faced tough competition at their Gavilan College Classic Saturday and came away with a split result.Â
Gavilan topped Santa Rosa 3-1 in its first game of the tournament before falling to Fresno City College 3-1 to finish 1-1 on the day.Â
The Rams beat Santa Rosa 20-25, 25-16, 25-21, 26-24 behind Alexia Balistreri’s 13 kills and Cheyanna Dela Merced’s 46 assists. Raelynn Heredia added 36 digs and Samantha Nydam and Savanna Hartman each had four blocks a piece.Â
Fresno proved to be just as tough as Gavilan fell 23-25, 25-21, 11-25, 17-25 in its second match of the day. Nydam led the offense with 11 kills and Dela Merced had 27 assists. Heredia served up three aces and 20 digs. Kendall Campbell had four blocks.Â
The Rams (5-7) have wrapped up their tournament play for the season and will host Hartnell College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.Â
