SAN BENITO – The injury-plagued Gavilan College women’s soccer team fell hard to Ohlone College – suffering an 8-1 loss in Thursday’s Coast Conference match-up.

“We had a lot of injuries and we didn’t play well,” said Lady Rams’ head coach Marty Behler, whose squad won its first game on Tuesday over Evergreen College.

The injuries sustained by the girls came from practicing on the Gavilan College field – which was deemed unplayable by the conference. The Lady Mustangs were without a home field until an agreement was worked out with Anzar High School.

The Gavilan kickers have had to deal with playing on a tiny patch of grass on campus due to the unplayable field. Along with the injuries, Behler feels that the girls fitness played a role in their loss.

“There is a very small safe portion to practice on,” Behler said. “It hurts the girls fitness.”

Gavilan’s only goal came from Sabrina Morales, with the assist by Cynthia Pinto. The loss ended Ohlone College’s three-game slide.

With players full of confidence after winning on Tuesday, the Lady Rams did not expect to sustain such a lopsided loss.

“It was a tough game; it was a fast game,” Behler said. “We had a lot of hope after winning our game on Tuesday.”

Gavilan’s next game will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at Cabrillo College.
