Mustangs’ escape with 71-69 victory Remain perfect in TCAL
Gilroy – Before Gilroy took on Salinas, Gilroy head coach Bud Ogden had a feeling the Cowboys would be a dangerous team.

On Salinas’ home court Saturday, that turned out to be true.

“They gave us everything we could handle,” Ogden said. “They’re one of the best 1-4 teams I’ve ever seen.”

The Mustangs were able to fend off a late Salinas rally to win 71-69 and preserve their undefeated TCAL record.

Senior forward Ryan Chisolm had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Gilroy. Dominik Wilkins added 16 points and three assists, Jeremy Teschera contributed 10 points and nine rebounds and Kameron Handy totaled 13 points and six rebounds.

Gilroy (14-6, 5-0 TCAL) held a 55-46 lead going into the fourth quarter. But as the game wound down, the Cowboys (8-12, 1-4 TCAL) made a late rally and closed to game to within one with close to a minute left.

“They were on a roll,” Ogden said. “There was definitely a momentum switch at the tail end of the game.”

Down the stretch, Chisolm and senior Vinny DeLorenzo made free throws to keep it a two-possession game.

“We did what we had to do to win. We got rebounds when we had to and got to loose balls,” Ogden said. “Players stepped up.”
