The Boy’s Gilroy American beat the Gilroy National team 11-6 in
the second round of the Tournament of Champions in Santa Cruz on
Tuesday.
The Boy’s Gilroy American beat the Gilroy National team 11-6 in the second round of the Tournament of Champions in Santa Cruz on Tuesday. Gilroy National had won its first round game on Sunday while Gilroy American enjoyed a first-round bye. The teams had met two times prior during the season. Gilroy American won both contests.

 The Gilroy National team led the game 3-1 going into the top of the fifth inning when the Gilroy American broke out for seven runs, putting the game out of reach.

Joe Vanni pitched for Gilroy American, striking out seven, allowing one hit,no walks and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Ethan Wrenn came in to close out the game. Eric Ornduff led the pitching for the Gilroy National team, striking out six in 4 1/3 innings.

At the plate, Joe Vanni went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Raul Tovar and Ethen Wrenn each went 2-for-3 and Trever Marquez drove in two runs for the winners. Anthony Drysdale went 2-for-3 and Justin Hale had a double and a blast to center field for a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to keep Gilroy National alive. 

Gilroy National will play again tonight at 5pm, and Gilroy American plays Saturday at 12:30pm.
