Gilroy High’s varsity girls soccer team closed out its league schedule Friday night by leaving no doubt it was the best in the Tri-County Athletic League.
A 3-1 victory over visiting Alisal gave the Mustangs an 11-0-1 record in the TCAL. After tying Alisal 1-1 Jan. 23, Gilroy now has recorded a win over every team in its league.
A senior (Sara Hugo), a junior (Ariana Vera) and a sophomore (Ariana Carrillo) each scored a goal for the Mustangs in the first 20 minutes of the match, in descending order by class.
Alisal pulled within two goals later in the half, but by then the contest was too far out of reach.
The Mustangs finish the regular season 12-4-3 overall. In their road to repeating as TCAL champs, the Mustangs also earned their first outright league crown in school history.
Gilroy will now await word on who will be its first round opponent in the Central Coast Section playoffs starting next week. Unless the team is paired against another league champion with a higher seed, which is unlikely, Gilroy will have home game in the first round.
CCS playoff schedules will be announced Saturday afternoon.
