Gilroy High School has been named one of four finalists schools in the country selected for a video they submitted to the national Let Your Heart Rule contest, which challenges teens to raise awareness about dating violence through film and television, according to the organization.

The winner will be announced May 30 on the Dr. Phil show, which airs locally on KRON channel 4.

For the contest, teens collaborated with classmates to create their own video public service announcements. The other three finalists besides GHS include Venture Academy in Stockton; Preston High School in Bronx, N.Y.; and Lehman High School in Bronx, N.Y.

The video created by Gilroy students “shows a young man being arrested and placed in jail due to an incident of dating violence. Behind the striking images is the young man narrating his thoughts and feelings about the incident, that will forever change his life,” according to the organization.

GHS students who collaborated on the video include Raul Torres, Amanda Jabr, Isaac Iniguez, Brenda Solorio, Erick Canto, Brandon George Flores, Ruth Lopez, Janet Velez, Max Montenegro, Tommy Rodriguez and Elizabeth Osuna.

To view and vote for your favorite video, visit letyourheartrule.com through May 16. When voting closes, the team garnering the most votes will receive tablets from Verizon Wireless, a $1,000 stipend for their school and the chance to have their PSA aired nationwide on DR. Phil.

To view the video created by GHS, visit letyourheartrule.com and click on the “Vote Now” link on the left hand side. Four videos will appear; the second video from the left was created by GHS.
