DEAR EDITOR:

We are the players and coaches from Gilroy High School’s varsity soccer team. We are writing to thank everyone that supported us over the past four months. Each of you shared in our journey and became a part of our team’s pre-season commitment to “Go where no team has gone before!”

We battled all season to earn the right to represent YOU in the CCS Division 1 soccer final. In doing so, we hope that, if only for a brief 80-minute game, we were able to unite a community and reunite many Gilroy High alumni. We know, for sure, that in this 80 minutes, your team was united even in defeat.

Although we are disappointed we lost our final game, it was not for lack of effort or, more importantly, for lack of your support. We finished the season as winners as a result of the support we received even in defeat. Gilroy High soccer had an amazing year (21-1-5) both on and off the field. We learned what it takes to be a champion on the soccer field and in the classroom.

The team was amazed by the support provided the team. Support from the community, from The Dispatch, from Dispatch Sports Editor Scott Forstner, from our school, and from our family and friends.

It is this support, throughout our season, that gave us the strength to excel, that fueled our hearts and ignited our passion to be the best: To be the best on the field and in the classroom.

Every time we heard a cheer, saw a banner, or read about our accomplishment in The Dispatch, our team became YOUR team and YOUR team became a team with a destiny … the destiny to be the best! YOU played a significant role in driving us toward fulfilling our dream.

We will be back nest year, pushing each other to be better and still “searching for that perfect game” because our journey is not complete. It will begin anew for next season’s freshmen and it will present new challenges for all those who return.

To our families, our friends, our school and our community: THANKS for allowing us to live our dream and exhibit our passion on such a grand stage!
