DEAR EDITOR:
It really amazes me that so many are so against the Super
Wal-Mart coming to Gilroy. Finally we have a store that caters to
all and they are trying to stop it.

Where were these people when Bonfante sold Nob Hill to Raleys and the small town grocery store became part of a non-caring chain, and who decided we needed another home improvement superstore?
When Bonfante decided we needed a high-priced amusement park to clog up the works on Hecker Pass where were all of you decision makers? And did you notice we finally have another furniture store besides Rosso’s?
You keep building more and more houses and apartments for low-income families in Gilroy but have done nothing to support more business that caters to them. More than half of Gilroy’s population is low- to middle-income, they need places to shop just like the transplants who are making all the decisions.
You complain about downtown going to the dogs and want to see revitalization but you haven’t a clue how to take this on. I remember back a few years when you could actually walk downtown and not be afraid. Gilroy is far from being a “Los Altos Hills” it’s high time the politicians who run things realize this. Let Wal-Mart live.
