A Gilroy man turned himself in to police after he allegedly stabbed a Morgan Hill man causing life-threatening injuries.

Morgan Hill police responded to a call at the El Toro Fire Station on Old Monterey Road about 3:17 a.m. June 13, reporting a man had been stabbed, according to Sgt. Troy Hoefling.

The victim, a 21-year-old Morgan Hill resident, had walked to the fire station for help, police determined. He suffered a large puncture wound to his stomach and was transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Officers were able to find the nearby crime scene on Llagas Road by contacting witnesses in the area, according to Hoefling. The suspect allegedly stabbed the man at a party at a home on that street.

After the stabbing, the suspect fled the scene on foot, Hoefling said. Officers searched a perimeter around the home, but were unable to find the suspect.

The suspect was identified as Steven Trujillo, 20 of Gilroy, Hoefling said.

Trujillo surrendered the next day at the Morgan Hill police station, police said.

He has since been charged by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office with attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.
