Gilroy resident Laura Wrede, award-winning writer and photographer, spent more than two years traveling from San Diego to Vancouver, B.C. creating art photography along the shores of the Pacific. “My Ocean,” a compilation of these images, is scheduled for release on Amazon Saturday, July 20.
“My Ocean” is a coffee table art photo book written in journal style, covering a 30-day journey exploring various characteristics of life from the shore. Each day reveals something new – from facts about tide pools and sea life, to lighthouses and bridges, as well as simple things – patterns in sand, layers in rock, and the essence of waves. Each chapter also includes inspiring thoughts and quotes. Several area beaches – Pacific Grove, Monterey, Santa Cruz and Stinson – are featured in the book.
Wrede grew up in Southern California. After moving to Gilroy, she fell in love with the unique shores of the Monterey Bay. As a strong ocean advocate, Wrede wrote her book not only to entertain, inspire, and educate her readers, but also to encourage them to appreciate the need to protect our oceans. Part of the proceeds of the book will go to organizations such as One World One Ocean and Monterey Bay Aquarium Research.
